Hone your comic art skills and bring home an inked page! Cartoonist Kane Lynch will share his experience and expertise in crafting comic narratives. Attendees will receive a brush pen demonstration and learn how to achieve a personal comic style. Materials provided.
Kane Lynch is a Bay Area artist who writes and illustrates Aerial Structures, a conspiracy comic penned in an elegant, noir-like style. His next project is Delicate Lies, a graphic novel unraveling the true story of his secret polygamist uncle, a serial con artist who left a trail of families across the US.

The ART of Lettering
with Sean Vranizan & Kel Troughton

Come learn how to use a chisel-tip marker to create a slew of effects, how to achieve straight letters, and how to paint letters in one stroke! Attendees will learn an overall approach to drawing type, covering letter spacing and hashing out a personal design to paint and to bring home. Materials provided.
San Francisco native artist Sean Vranizan brings his unique typographic sensibility in the form of hand painting signs, custom font designs, murals and vintage signage photography.
As a craftsman working in typography, Kel Troughton aims to preserve and continue the tradition of drawing letters by hand. When not in his studio obsessing over a perfectly drawn “S”, Kel can be found with a camera exploring cities for old signage, graffiti, and lettering inspiration.

Artist Talk: Doug Minkler

Veteran printmaker, Doug Minkler, shares over 30 years of his political screen prints. Minkler approaches his work with a passionate commitment to social change. His art battles corporate polluters, predatory banks, nuclear weapons laboratories, brutal police, union-busting businesses and “the masters of war.”
Past collaborations include work with ILWU, Rain Forest Action Network, SF Mime Troupe, ACLU, The Lawyers Guild, CISPES, United Auto Workers, Africa Information Network, Ecumenical Peace Union, ADAPT, Cop Watch, Street Sheet, and Veterans for Peace.
Doug Minkler is a Berkeley poster maker who uses oil based inks to smear oil based Inc.(s). His colorful award winning work has been collected, respected, sued and booed.
