CHARLOTTE SALOMON

Our name, Lotte, is taken from the artist Charlotte Salomon.  Salomon (1917 - 1943) was a German-Jewish artist born in Berlin. She is remembered as the creator of an autobiographical series of works Leben? oder Theater?: Ein Singspiel, painted between 1941 and 1943 while she was in hiding from the Nazis. Salomon wrote: “I will create a story so as not to lose my mind.” She died at the age of 26 in Auschwitz. Charlotte, called Lotte, was a brilliant young artist who chose to live and create art while she could.

NICE TO MEET YOU!

Lotte Arts is a not-for-profit Oakland-based arts organization. We bring AFFORDABLE FINE ART pop-ups to the Bay Area and beyond. This is art even artists can afford! Our events have included work by over one hundred local artists. There are no entrance fees to our events. We, at Lotte Arts, believe strongly in our affordable fine art pop-ups and what they stand for – fine art should be accessible to everyone!

The artwork displayed and sold at Lotte events is all original. We do not accept giclée prints or reproductions of any kind. We want our customers to know that each piece is authentic and unique.

Nik Sonfield and Kathleen O’Leary founded Lotte Arts in the summer of 2011. After attending a UC Davis student-run print sale, Nik and Kathleen were inspired to create something of the same nature on a greater scale.

We, at Lotte Arts pride ourselves on finding and reaching out to the most talented, and often under-recognized, artists in the Bay Area. We scout for artists at open studios, print fairs, zine fests, gallery openings, and other art events.
